Film & TV Language - Film Poster Analysis

Film Poster 1 - Blade Runner
1) The film seems to be action-oriented. Judging from that, I think the story line may be about some type of dystopia, as the setting of the poster seems to be quite futuristic yet dark and sinister, due to the dark colours contrasting with the bright white lights. The lighting itself is also quite dark, with most of the buildings in shadow.
2) I think the film may be part of the action genre, due to the actors and their props. The man is in a defensive pose holding a pistol, while the woman looks at the viewers holding a cigarette in her hand.
3) The target audience for this film seems to be for more mature people, if we take everything into account - the weapons, the dark lighting, the dystopian setting, these don't seem like typical conventions for a family oriented movie.

Film Poster 2 - Scary Movie 2
1) I believe that the film is about parodying typical horror movie conventions. The name of the film, "Scary Movie", and the exaggerated faces/poses of the actors speak to the audience that this isn't a normal horror movie.
2) The film belongs to the comedy/parody genre. This is because it's making fun of/parodying horror movies. We can see this in the critic's quote and tagline of the movie, which reinforce this fact.
3) The target audience is more so teens. While the movie isn't scary (ironically), the humour shown may not be suitable for young children. Therefore, I believe this film would be suitable for teenagers and above.
Film Poster 3 - Uzak
1) The film is most likely about the upsetting life of this man. This is due to the barren wasteland of the setting and the sad, depressed pose of the actor.
2) The film is possibly a drama. This is because of the critic's quotes praising the movie for being very powerful, and the title, "Uzak", being "Distant" in Turkish.
3) The target audience for this film is clearly for adults. This is because of the dark nature of this film, taking the setting and character into account. The content in this film is most likely not suitable for children or teens.
Film Poster 4 - I'm Not Scared
1) The film is probably about this boy having to overcome a fear of his. This is due to the film's title, "I'm Not Scared", and the worried expression of the boy looking down into the void below. The dark lighting of the pit clashes with the light above.
2) The film is definitely a thriller. It gives it away in its tagline, where it states "The Award-winning Thriller".
3) The target audience of this film is probably teens to adults. The film doesn't seem to be a very dark thriller, as the lighting looks too bright to be very scary. Because of this, I believe the film is aiming for a more general demographic.
Film Poster 5 - Sin City
1) The film is probably about mafia members/criminal groups or something similar. This is due to the actors and their dark costumes, and their props which are weapons (pistols).
2) The film is most likely part of the action genre due to the dark nature of the film and how most of the main actors are posing with guns.
3) The target audience of this film is most likely adults. The dark lighting of the poster mixed with the dark, rainy setting and intimidating actors should speak to audiences that this is not for families/general audiences.
Film Poster 6 - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
1) The film is about, well, pirates. The film's title and the actors' costumes, along with the setting, show that this is a film about pirates.
2) This film is probably a mixture of different genres, mainly fantasy, pirates, action and adventure. This is due to the actors and their costumes, their props and expressions, and the setting of the whole poster, being quite fantasy oriented.
3) The target audience of this film is a general audience/families. The fantasy setting and use of pirates appeals to young children, whilst the dark undertones of the films appeal to adults, so kids and adults of various ages can enjoy this film.
Film Poster 7 - Bride & Prejudice
1) The film is could be about this couple getting ready for their wedding, as inferred through the film's title and the actors portraying a couple.
2) This is most likely a hybrid genre, mostly comprised of comedy, romance, and maybe some drama. Films like these are very popular in the film industry; stereo-typically they follow a couple and their comedic misadventures in their lives.
3) This film could be aimed at a general audience considering the content and overall theme of the movie. However, due to the genres/content, it could be aimed at an older demographic than a typical family movie is.
Film Poster 8 - Million Dollar Baby
1) The actor's costume could suggest that this movie about a boxer/fighter.
2) The film's genre is probably action, drama and sports. This is due to the subject matter about fighting and how the dark lighting suggests that the film will be quite dark.
3) The film is most likely aimed towards an older audience of adults. Not only is this due to the subject matter within the movie, but also the genres too.
