3) Now reflect on your video. Did you meet the brief and successfully include the three key editing aspects we have learned?
Looking back at my video, I have successfully added all the 3 key editing aspects: I had match-on-action, shot reverse shot and I also didn't break the 180-degree rule. However, I didn't include enough match-on-action. I have learnt how to use these 3 skills effectively in my work.
4) What were the strengths and weaknesses of your final film? Write a detailed analysis picking out specific shots, edits and any other aspect of film language you think is relevant.
The strengths of my film were that I had been quite creative with my editing; I had added effects to certain scenes, such as a scene where I parodied/referenced a video game. I had also tried to use transitions and match-on-action wherever I could. My weaknesses were that I didn't use enough match-on-action and that I could have used the 3 key aspects of editing much more than I did.
5) Learner response: what aspect of editing did you find most difficult? What have you learned from this process that will help you when you start the actual coursework later this year?
The aspect of editing that I found most challenging was figuring out how to connect scenes and make them flow properly. Granted, it's fairly easy once you start editing, but you also have to take this into account when you're filming - which can make editing challenging, as you have to work out how to link certain clips together so that transitions don't look extremely jarring. I have learnt how to edit an effective video and I will certainly use these key skills and conventions in the future when I start my own coursework.
