Sound Practical Task - Feedback + Learner Response

  1)  WWW: - Good use of images ; combination of found footage + own footage - Transition at the drop - Use of video game footage - Fast moving contrapuntal section - Very good pacing ; exactly 1 minute - Good concept; " meta " concept EBI: - Abrupt ending; fade to black next time 2) - High quality images and sound - Good idea/ concept - Use of own images/video - Contrapuntal contrast was confusing to some 3) My video contained lots of high quality images/video . I had used my own footage and found footage well. The concept I had for my idea of a contrast between parallel and contrapuntal sound was well executed. However, the contrast seemed a bit confusing to some/unfitting - to get my point across better, next time I should have a more harsh contrast . 4) My top 3 picks are Laiyla, Olivia and Abdiillah. To improve my own video , I should make my contrast between parallel and contrapuntal much, much more harsh compared to my starting footage . 5) I have realised the im...

Film and TV Language: Sound Analysis

Image
Diegetic sound : - Sound effects : sound effects such as footsteps, wood creaks, props , etc. are used to varying effects and volumes to showcase the gravity of the situation to the audience - Dialogue : characters/actors speak to each other or against the killer (Myers) in fear or co-ordination Non-diegetic sound : - Music : showcased during intense scenes /battles between actors - auditory queue to the audience to signify danger and/or fear; subsequently, the lack of music in some scenes makes it easier for the audience to live the fear that the characters/actors feel, as they can hear even the quietest sound effects , giving a sense of uneasiness and unfamiliarity The use of diegetic/non-diegetic sound here makes the audience emphasise with the cast as they experience the same fear they feel. They are used in such a way to provide visceral pleasure to the audience as the studio who made the movie intends to invoke fear in their audience . Parallel sound : - Music : the...

Film and TV Language: Lighting

Image
  1)  This image uses low-key lighting . The light is coming from the top , most likely to bring light/highlight the actor 's face - this is what they want us to focus on, as everything else is dark. This image uses high-key lighting as everything here is lit. The lighting is coming from the top , mimicking the sun. This is the effect they wanted to create; natural sunlight, as if this were taken outside. This image uses low-key lighting as most things are obscured in the darkness but the actor 's face. His costume and prop , while lit, are in the darkness. We can see this clearly as the lighting is coming from the top . This creates a sense of mystery and/or threat to the audience as we see him as intimidating. This image uses low-key lighting to emphasise a horror scene. The lighting comes from under/behind the actor from what we can see from the shadows. This creates unusual lighting that instills fear into the audience . This image uses  low-key lighting (and po...

Sound Practical Task

Image
My video is a contrast between the simple pleasures of life. To demonstrate parallel sound , I used the song "Can You Feel The Sunshine" by TJ Davis to reiterate and convey the joyfulness of vacation, complimented by the videos showcasing places you would typically be on holiday. However, this is quickly changed halfway through the video with the footage being swapped out for violence in a video game, which in turn makes the song contrapuntal instead of parallel . The reason I did this is to showcase 2 different things that make audiences happy; one is happy and joyful, and the other is violent and gruesome. It showcases how audiences and cultures have changed in recent times - years, even decades ago this kind of thing would be banned, but nowadays we experience the same kind of casual and visceral/voyeuristic pleasure from this form of entertainment the same way we do when we're on holiday.

Mise-en-scene Recreation LR

  1)  WWW: - Good planning & scripting - Included snippet of original clip as reference - Sound effects + editing : phone ringing and voice - Costume : same outfit as original, very accurate - Performance accurate - Excellent cinematography : matches original clip - Soundtrack : original one added, excellent attention to detail - Post production : colour correction added EBI: - Better dubbing/voice over 2) The audience /class enjoyed my acting / costume , cinematography and SFX / music . The main complaint was that the lighting wasn't as good as the original scene, which is something I can work on next time. 3) My video had great planning / scripting . I cut down the original clip and put it in my blog as reference. The sound effects and editing used was faithful to the original; the costume and performance was aswell. The cinematography also is quite faithful to the original clip, and I used the same soundtrack as the film. In post , I added colour correction to make ...
